Different kinds of flower bulbs
Our selection of flower bulbs covers a wide variety of options. From classic favorites like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths to eye-catching choices such as alliums, dahlias, and lilies. Depending on the season and the type you choose, you can enjoy blooms in either spring or summer.
Spring bulbs
Popular spring-flowering bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths can be ordered ifrom spring onwards for autumn delivery. These bulbs should be planted in autumn, before the first frost, as they require the cold winter months to rest and develop. This process allows the flowers to form during their "hibernation" underground. Once the warmth of spring arrives, the bulbs awaken and begin to grow into stunning blooms.
Planting and Caring for Flower Bulbs
Once your flower bulbs and tubers arrive, unpack them immediately and aim to plant them as soon as possible. If planting right away isn’t an option, store them in a cool (12-17°C), dry, and dark location with good air circulation. Avoid storing them in the fridge or in plastic, as bulbs need to breathe. Ensure you plant them in healthy, well-drained soil.
As a general rule for planting, space the bulbs about 3 times their width apart and plant them at a depth of 3 times their height. You can plant the bulbs and tubers by hand, but using a bulb planter can make the job easier.
Planting flower bulbs in the garden
Flower bulbs offer endless possibilities in garden design. In a more formal setting, you can plant bulbs in groups by colour for a structured look. For a more vibrant display, mix various bulb types and colours together. A fun method is to toss different bulbs around the border and plant them where they land, creating a natural, playful effect.
Planting flower bulbs in containers
Brighten up your patio or balcony by planting bulbs in containers. Use a large pot, basket, or container with drainage holes to allow the bulbs to establish healthy roots and prevent waterlogging. For good drainage, place a layer of hydro grains or broken pottery at the bottom. To extend the flowering period, try layering the bulbs, a technique known as lasagne planting. Start with bulbs that bloom later, like tulips, at the bottom. Above them, add bulbs that bloom earlier, such as hyacinths and daffodils, and finish with early bloomers like muscari or crocuses at the top. This way, each layer flowers in sequence, keeping your container or garden patch blooming for weeks!
