Planting Eucomis or Pineapple lily bulbs
The Sucomis is, with one exception (Eucomis regia), a summer-flowering plant. Therefore the Eucomis prefers a sunny spot in a normally drained soil. If you plant the Eucomis in a pot, you can let it hibernate frost-free. Is the Eucomis planted in the soil? In a place where it hardly ever freezes, this is not a problem as the Eucomis tolerates some cold. If there is a chance of severe frost, it is advisable to dig up the bulbs and store them in a frost-free place. If the ground around the Eucomis bulb freezes, the bulb will freeze too.

History of the Eucomis
Eucomis means in Greek, eu: beautiful, and coma: hair or a bun, so a beautiful bun or nicely trimmed. This of course refers to the top of the plant. Originally, the plant comes from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
