Different varieties of flower bulbs, tubers and rootstocks

We offer a wide range of flower bulbs, tubers and rootstocks. These include the classic favourites like Daffodils, Tulips and Hyacinths. But also striking Dahlias, Lilies and Alliums. Depending on which variety you plant, they flower in spring or summer.

Spring flowering bulbs – autumn planting

Well-known spring-flowering bulbs such as Hyacinths, Daffodils and Tulips can be ordered from the spring onwards for delivery in the autumn. The spring bloomers need to be planted in the autumn, before the first frost. These bulbs need the cold of the winter under the soil. This is a kind of hibernation in which the flowers develop. After feeling the first warmth of spring the bulbs awaken and grow into beautiful flowers. Spring bulbs flower in the spring. But the first spring-flowering bulbs such as Galanthus (snowdrops), Eranthis (winter aconite) and Crocus (crocuses) can even sprout already from January. These flowers are a delicious appetizer for the bees, as they are among the first to bloom. The bees fly out for the first time around this time to look for pollen. Do you want to give the bee population a helping hand? Then it is advisable to plant early spring flowers!

Summer flower bulbs – spring planting

Summer-flowering bulbs such as Gladioli, Lilies, Dahlias and Begonias can be ordered online from autumn onwards and delivered in spring. You can plant the summerflowering bulbs after the frost, in the spring and they will flower in summer, sometimes well into the autumn! Do you want to get the most out of your summer flowering bulbs? Make sure that you remove the spent flowers so that the plant has room to grow and develop new buds.

Naturalising flower bulbs

Naturalising bulbs are winter-hardy flower bulbs that multiply and come back every year.

A location where they may be left alone is the best environment for bulbs that naturalise and flower year after year. Daffodils and Galanthus (snowdrops), for instance, do nicely in the shade of trees or bushes. The botanical tiny tulips demand a sunny location, but naturalising bulbs like Crocus and Scilla can also be planted in the lawn. Will you plant the flower bulbs in the grass? If this is the case, it is best to wait to mown the lawn until the naturalising bulbs have done blooming. That is approximately 6 weeks after flowering. In general this means that mowing can be done in May or June, depending on the flowering kind and time. Some naturalising bulbs are also referred to as 'native plants'. This refers to a group of historical species that were planted on country estates in the past. Native bulbs include the species Anemone nemerosa, Chionodoxa, Corydalis solida and Fritillaria meleagris.

Perennials – plants

The fact that perennials add greenery to your yard may be their biggest benefit. However, they also provide the garden colour and structure. Perennials are the ideal complement to your garden and are frequently used as a foundation, whether as a ground cover or as a background in a border. Hardy plants are perennials. In the winter, they complete their flowering above the earth and go underground for a period of so-called hibernation. These perennials grow new shoots in the spring. Perennial plants flourish year after year, becoming richer and more attractive. Do you have a garden that is shaded or one that is exposed to the light all day? For each location in the garden or border, there is a plant that will grow there.

How to plant and take care for flower bulbs

As soon as the flower bulbs and tubers arrive, unpack them, and plant them as soon as you can. Can’t you plant them straight away? Keep the flower bulbs in a cool (12–17 degrees) dry, dark, and well-ventilated location. The flower bulbs need to breathe, so don't store them in plastic or in the refrigerator. Ensure the soil is healthy and well-drained. We often stick to a planting spacing that is three times the bulb's width and three times its height. You can manually plant the bulbs and tubers in the ground. A bulb-planter can be useful for this.

Planting flower bulbs in the garden, borders and flowerbeds

With flower bulbs, various options exist. The flower bulbs can be grouped and planted according to colour for a more formal garden design. Planting a variety of different colorus and kinds will result in a vibrant assortment of colour and scent. Fill a bucket with different varieties of flower bulbs, then spread them along the border. Plant the bulb where it will end up. This produces a natural and playful display! Combining flower bulbs with perennials is ideal. Spring-flowering bulbs bring already colour to the garden when the perennials have only just emerged from the ground.

Planting flower bulbs in containers and pots

The best approach to brighten up your patio or balcony is to plant flower bulbs in containers. Use a sizable pot, basket, or container with a hole in the bottom so that any extra water may drain and the flower bulbs can root correctly. To guarantee proper drainage, put hydro grains or potsherds at the bottom of the container. By planting the flower bulbs in layers, the blossoming season can be prolonged. This is known as lasagne planting. You may quickly start your own spring garden with a flower-bulb lasagne! The bottom layer consists of bulbs that flower last, such as Tulips. Bulbs that flower earlier, such as Hyacinths and Daffodils, can be placed above them. The top layer is made up of early-flowering bulbs such as Muscari (blue grapes) or Crocus (crocuses). Flower bulbs can be placed one above the other without any problems. They flower as usual, one after the other, but in the same place. In this way you can keep a container or patch in bloom for weeks!
